Students, parents and educators from Suffolk Public Schools learned about integrated Digital Shipbuilding and Repair through interactive and engaging workshop rotations!
From Game of Phones, sea squirts, prototyping a marshmallow tower, virtual reality to an engineering design challenge guests who visited ODU-VMASC learned different applications of technology being utilized in regional shipbuilding and repair yards.
The Digital Shipbuilding STEMpowerment workshop at ODU-VMASC fosters problem based learning/inquiry paradigms through navigation of hands-on manufacturing experiences and engineering design processes. The workshop empowers innovative, industry practices within the digital age utilizing real time data on the digital thread based on 3D design, modeling, printing, manufacturing, and virtual reality!
Winners of the engineering design challenge were from Forest Glen Middle School. Way to go team!
This was an excellent program- it could’ve lasted longer! It was fun, interesting and time just flew by. Thank you team members for taking a Saturday to do this for my child.

“I loved everything about today! My favorite activity was using the virtual reality headsets to learn about the aircraft carrier bulkheads. Very cool!
